New technology is being added to familiar play formats
EverBoard, Volkswagen and Uniden each add a new capability to an existing format without requiring people to learn an entirely new interface. The tabletop remains shared, the car uses its existing infotainment system and the walkie-talkie stays independent of Wi-Fi, mobile networks and apps.
EverBoard is a 21.5-inch touchscreen tabletop console for up to six players. It includes licensed Hasbro board games and an AI tool that generates new games from a voice or text prompt. Players still gather around one shared surface, but they are no longer limited to a fixed library of games.
Volkswagen is adding AirConsole to its 2027 infotainment systems. The service includes 20 arcade titles, including Tetris and Pac-Man, with players using their smartphones as controllers. It brings gaming into the existing in-car screen and device setup without requiring a separate console or controller.
Uniden’s video walkie-talkie for children adds live two-way video and voice while remaining offline. It requires no Wi-Fi, mobile network, app or account. The product expands what a walkie-talkie can do while preserving the standalone setup that distinguishes it from a smartphone.
