TILER's paving tiles are weatherproof, on-street charging pads for e-bikes

Wirelessly charging phones and earbuds may have become mainstream, but how about taking the magic of no cords to the streets? Dutch startup TILER has developed tiles with integrated charging technology, allowing e-bikes to power up outdoors without needing cables or space-hogging charging stations.

The tiles work with a charging kickstand that can be installed on any e-bike. Once the kickstand is placed on a TILER tile, the bike automatically starts charging using induction. No electricians or extensive digging are required for installation — the tiles are just placed like regular pavement tiles and connected to the grid.

From 2019 to 2021, TILER worked on product development and pilots, launching its product commercially this year. In 2023, the company will scale production and explore international markets. While the current focus is on e-bikes, TILER plans to expand to cargo e-bikes, electric scooters and other light electric vehicles within a few years.

Trend Bite

Cleaner air, less traffic congestion, safer streets — getting people out of their cars is a no-brainer when it comes to making cities more livable. And new modes of (micro) mobility require smart new infrastructure, like TILER's low-profile solution that makes charging effortless — just park and go — but doesn't add clutter to crowded urban spaces. What can your brand do to be part of a car-light future?
